What SEO keywords cost to buy instead

Every term here is one you could rank for, or bid on. The bid column is what Google tells advertisers a top-of-page click costs them in the UK right now. Ranking is the same traffic without the meter running, which is the only argument this site makes and the reason these figures are worth publishing rather than quoting selectively.

How to read this without being misled

Three things about keyword data are routinely reported in a way that overstates everything, and all three were in this export before it was cleaned up.

Volume is shared between variants, not added up

Google reports close variants at the head term's volume. In the raw file, 125 different ways of asking "website seo check" all read 22,200 searches a month — "check seo of website", "seo website check", "cek seo web" and the rest. They are one demand, not 125. Listing them separately, as the raw export does, would claim 2,775,000 searches a month for a single idea. Variants are merged here, the count of phrasings behind each row is kept, and the volume is counted once.

A single "cost per click" is usually a midpoint of nothing

The export carries one CPC figure per keyword, and it is the midpoint of the top-of-page bid range. For "backlink seo services" that range runs from £6.94 to £463.05, and the midpoint — £235 — describes no advertiser who has ever existed. The range is shown here instead, in both columns, for exactly that reason.

A third of a keyword export is not keywords

Keyword Planner returns misspellings, scrambled word orders and anything that happens to contain your term. This file contained "seo agecny", "wahat is seo", and a Korean actor whose name is Park Seo-joon. 9,124 rows were kept out of the table for that reason. They are still searchable, because someone typing one should get an answer rather than nothing.

What this is actually useful for

  • Pricing the alternative. Before paying for a term, the bid range tells you what buying the same traffic costs every month, forever. Put your own figure into the ad spend calculator and it will do the five-year arithmetic.
  • Spotting demand nobody is bidding on. A high-volume term with a low bid range is usually informational: people are searching, advertisers have worked out it does not convert. Those are content pages, not service pages.
  • Sanity-checking a proposal. If an agency's keyword list is full of terms with 70 searches a month, the campaign has been built to be easy to win rather than worth winning.
  • Finding the phrasing people actually use. The merged rows keep the most natural wording of each concept, which is frequently not the one businesses use about themselves.

Where the figures come from

Search Atlas (Google Keyword Planner data), United Kingdom, pulled 2026-10-18. 9,998 raw keyword rows, reduced to 874 distinct concepts by the merging described above. Volumes are Google Keyword Planner monthly averages. Bid figures are the top-of-page bid range Google reports to advertisers, not what anyone is guaranteed to pay.

Nothing here is modelled, estimated or adjusted by us. Where a figure is missing it is left out rather than filled in — Google supplies a difficulty score for only 14% of these keywords, which is why there is no difficulty column.

Figures move. This is a snapshot taken on 2026-10-18, not a live feed, and it is labelled with its date for that reason. Your own Google Ads account, under Tools → Keyword Planner, will always beat it and costs nothing to look at.

FAQ

Questions about these numbers

Where does this keyword data come from?

A Search Atlas export of Google Keyword Planner figures for the United Kingdom, pulled on 2026-10-18. 9,998 raw keyword rows, reduced to 874 distinct concepts once close variants are merged. Nothing is modelled or estimated by us, and the whole file is downloadable as JSON from the page.

Why is the cost shown as a range instead of one number?

Because the single figure in the source data is the midpoint of the top-of-page bid range, and on wide ranges it is meaningless. "Backlink seo services" carries a range of £6.94 to £463.05, and its midpoint — £235 — matches no advertiser anywhere. Showing the range is the only honest option.

Why do so many keywords show exactly the same search volume?

Google reports close variants at the head term's volume, so 125 different phrasings of "website seo check" all read 22,200 searches a month. They are one demand, not 125. Variants are merged here and counted once; the raw file is where the duplication lives.

Is the search volume accurate?

It is Google's own monthly average, which is the best public figure available and still a rounded band rather than a count. Planner buckets volumes — 2,900, 3,600, 4,400 — so treat them as the right order of magnitude rather than a precise number.

What does "100 clicks" mean in the table?

The bid range multiplied by a hundred. It is there because a per-click figure is hard to feel and a monthly bill is not. It is arithmetic, not a forecast: it does not claim you would get a hundred clicks, or what they would be worth.

Why is there no keyword difficulty column?

Because the source only carries a difficulty score for about 14% of these keywords. Showing it for one row in seven and leaving the rest blank would invite comparisons that the data cannot support.

Can I use this data for my own work?

Yes. It is published under CC BY 4.0 and the JSON file is linked from the page. A credit back to this page is the only condition, and it is also how we find out whether anyone is using it.

Why are there misspellings in the search results?

Because Keyword Planner returns them and someone typing one deserves an answer. Misspellings and scrambled word orders are kept out of the table but stay searchable — type "seo agecny" and you will get the real rate for it.

Does a high bid mean a keyword is worth targeting?

It means advertisers believe the traffic converts, which is useful evidence and not proof. A high bid with low volume is a small market with determined competitors. A high volume with a near-zero bid is usually informational: people are searching, advertisers have worked out they are not buying.

How often is this updated?

It is a dated snapshot, not a live feed, and it is labelled with its date for that reason. Your own Google Ads account under Tools and then Keyword Planner shows live figures for your terms, free, without running a campaign.
