HTTPS Checker

Confirm HTTPS works, that HTTP redirects to it, and when the certificate expires.

Free, no signup. We fetch the page once and read what your server sends back.

Fetching the page…

What this checks

HTTPS has been a lightweight ranking signal since 2014 and is now simply expected. The common failure is not a missing certificate but a site that serves both HTTP and HTTPS without redirecting, which splits ranking signals across two versions of every page.

  • Whether the final URL is HTTPS
  • Whether plain HTTP redirects to HTTPS
  • HSTS header
  • Certificate expiry where reported

How to act on the result

  • HTTP must 301 to HTTPS. Serving both is a duplicate content problem.
  • Redirect in one hop where possible.
  • Set a calendar reminder for certificate expiry unless renewal is automated.

Frequently asked

Is HTTPS a ranking factor?

Yes, confirmed by Google since 2014, though a light one. The larger effect is on trust: browsers mark HTTP pages as "not secure" in the address bar.

What happens if HTTP does not redirect?

Both versions of every page can be crawled and indexed, splitting your ranking signals across duplicates. It is a common and easily fixed problem.

Do I need an expensive certificate?

No. Let's Encrypt certificates are free, automatically renewed and cryptographically identical to paid ones for search purposes. Paid certificates buy warranty and support, not ranking.

What is HSTS?

A header telling browsers to use HTTPS for your domain automatically, without even attempting HTTP. It removes the redirect on repeat visits and closes a small attack window.
